Method Statement for Temporary Ladder Access Scaffolding and Walkway for Hanging Platform

Do you know that a temporary ladder access scaffolding is the equipment or tools we used to access the hanging platform on the ceiling area of the hangar?

The purpose of installing temporary ladders access scaffolding and walkway is to use by workers to access the hangar roof ceiling level so that the MEP trades can be installed.

In this method statement, I will show you how to properly install the temporary ladder access scaffolding and walkway.

1. Title

Method Statement for Temporary Ladder Access Scaffolding and Walkway for Hanging Platform

2. Purpose

The purpose of this method statement is to describe the measures and system, a procedure that will be adopted for installation of temporary ladder access scaffolding tower and walkway on the Steel frame for hanging platform installation at hanger, on the ceiling area of the hangar. This method statement has been prepared based on the method statement from the specialist included in the material submittal n0. (place your number here) already approved by the engineer.

3. Materials

3.1 Cuplock scaffolding materials
3.2 Conventional scaffolding tubes and couplers
3.3 Wooden boards
3.4 Aluminum ladders
3.5 Pulley and hand tools

4. Equipment and Tools

4.1 Lifting
4.2 Ladder( For access and egress during offloading on Truck or trailer only)
4.3 Forklift/telehandler
4.4 Trucks/Pick Up
4.5 Hand tools

5. Methodology

  • Temporary Ladder Access Scaffolding

A Temporary Access scaffold will be erected with cup lock scaffold and aluminum ladders to reach up to the hanging platform level which connects to the walkway on the hanger steel structure. The method and sequence are as follows:

Step 1 – Scaffold base to be prepared firm and level by main contractor. The foundation for the scaffold should be maintained in an adequate condition during the life of the scaffold.

Step 2 – Scaffold base will be installed, using adjustable jacks on timber sole boards. (Ref. Fig:1)

Step 3 – Standards will be placed upon the adjustable jacks and connected with ledgers. This will be repeated until all standards are installed for the base lift (Ref. Fig:1, 2 & 3)

Step 4 – Once the grid layout (Grid 2.5m x 2.5m) has been formed, the next level of ledgers will be installed

Step 5 – Once done, the necessary bracing will be added, using double/swivel to connect tubes to either the standards or ledgers.

Step 6 – Board bearing transoms will be added, followed by scaffold boards. Scaffold boards will be fixed into place by connecting to Transom’s using board retaining couplers or rope/wire. Overhang of boards will not exceed 4 times their thickness.

Step 7 – The scaffolders will access the scaffold deck via ladder, inserting the handrail, whilst at all times maintaining safe systems of work (SG4) and utilizing safety harness.

Step 8 – The ladder is then installed to the full height of the scaffold which is 28m, followed by all guard-rails and toe-boards needed at this level. Ladders will be fixed at an angle of 75 degrees (4:1) and will project at least 1.05m above the working platform.

Step 9 – Steps 4-8 will be repeated until the ladder tower has been erected up to the required height.

Step 10 – Scaffold ties to the hanger structural steel columns are to be installed at every 4.0m as works progress.

Step 11 – Scaffold inspected, tagged, and handed over as fit for use.

Note:– Any incomplete scaffolds shall be physically barricaded and tagged ‘DO NOT USE’ when left unattended and at the end of each shift

  • Walkway on Hanger Steel Frame

Temporary Scaffolding walkway on steel structure would be with 3-5 boarded platforms of 100m length, which will connect with the access scaffolding from the ground level. The method & sequence as follows:

Step 1 – Main contractor has to ensure the stability of the structure to install a walkway on the steel structure.

Step 2 – Scaffold base will be installed on the steel structural beams, with the help of scaffolding tube transoms spaced 1.5m max c/c.

Step 3 – The transoms will be fixed to the steel beams using SK / Girder couplers.

Step 4 – Once the transoms are fixed, scaffolding boards which are 4 boarded platforms are to be fixed to the transoms using board retaining couplers (BRC).

Step 5 – The platform is then completed by providing suitable handrails and toe boards. This walkway will connect with the ladder access scaffolding.

  • Guardrails will be fixed wherever there is a risk of falling. Minimum height of top rail shall be 950mm with a maximum gap between guardrails not exceeding 470mm; For a Typical edge protection
  • Toeboards will be fixed to the entire walkway where there is a risk of falling materials, or where a person may fall more than 2m. Toeboards shall not have any gaps, be placed inside of the standards and have a minimum height of 150mm.

Step 6 – Scaffold inspected, tagged, and handed over as fit for use.

Note: – Any incomplete scaffolds shall be physically barricaded and tagged ‘DO NOT USE’ when left unattended and at the end of each shift

6. Safety

6.1 Scaffolding material will be transported safely by suitable truck/3 ton pickup/trailers at required near the area of the hangars in bundled and/or stacked in still cages. All vehicles used will not be more than 10 years old from the manufacturing date and inspected by Main contractor logistic dept personnel. Follow the traffic route inside the hangars with adequate flagman and follow site speed limit 20 km/h and traffic signages.

6.2 Subcontractor will ensure that all employees are safety inducted prior to entering the hangars site and they will be briefed about the Site Emergency Procedure, site safety rules, and regulations, etc.

6.3 JSA & PTB will be conducted and briefed on a daily basis before commencing any high-level works on hangars by concerned engineers and supervisors.

6.4 Exclusion zone will be established to avoid unauthorized entries and signage must be placed during loading offloading, working at height, power tool operations, etc.

6.7 Adequate task lighting, supervision and safety cover will be ensured by Subcontractor prior to start.
