What is the Allowed Time for the Concrete Discharge?

What is the Allowed Time for the Concrete Discharge? There is always confusion on site about the required time for the discharge of concrete. Some say it is 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, etc. Which is it? One time, we had cast the wall below ground. It was in the second basement, and due to the distance of the wall from the truck mixer outside the building, it took several minutes to reach the wall using the bobcat. The consultant found out that the concrete had expired and he said to the project engineer, “Engineer, the concrete has expired!” He then told the project engineer, “You have to return the concrete or throw it out from here!” The project engineer replied, shouting “No! As per the standard time… Blah! Blah! Blah!” And so on and so forth. You would probably be confused listening to this, if you heard the two voices, as they barely differed from each other. The consultant took the delivery notes of the concrete and he said, “Engineer, I will raise an NCR about this be

Steel Bar Reinforcement Tests That You Should Know

Steel Bar Reinforcement Tests That You Should Know Materials’ testing is crucial. It entails measurement of characteristics and behavior of substances like metals, ceramics, and plastics under varying conditions. Consequently, we obtain data that acts as a foundation to specify the suitability of the materials for various applications. Steel bar reinforcement is not an exception; it is equally put under testing to identify its numerous specific uses. In fact, the most common test for steel bar reinforcement is the tensile test, bending test and chemical analysis. Maybe, you are not too familiar with chemical analysis. When a researcher is dealing with any kinds of product that we consume, it needs to conduct chemical analysis to know the quantity and quality of chemical components in a certain product such as steel bar reinforcement, structural steel and round or flat bar. What is a mill certificate? It refers to a quality assurance document that one uses in the metal industry showin

What is Bar Bending Schedule and How It is used?

What is Bar Bending Schedule and How It is used? Bar bending schedule also referred to as BSS, is a comprehensive list of reinforcement bars that describes the location, mark, size, type, number, length, and bending details of each bar in a reinforcement drawing. The actual process of listing the type, size, location, the number and the other details is what is referred to as scheduling. In other words, bar scheduling is a way of organizing bars for each structural unit by giving details about the reinforcement requirements. How Bar Bending Schedule Is Used By using bar bending schedule, cutting and bending of reinforcement bars can be done at a factory and later delivered to the job site. Ordinarily, it will require several workers and special equipment for reinforcement bars to be cut or bent right at the construction site. But with the bar bending schedule being carried out at the factory, this will be easily done and it will reduce the time and construction costs. Additionally, b

Method Statement for Application of Waterproofing Membrane

Method Statement for Application of Waterproofing Membrane The purpose of the method statement for application of waterproofing is to prevent the water to percolate or penetrate into any underground concrete members. When the water penetrates into the sub-grade concrete-like foundation such as mat foundation, footing, tie beam, etc. the steel reinforcement that embedded in the concrete would corrode due to a chemical reaction caused by water and the structure would eventually fail. Application of  waterproofing  especially for large structures would have to be strictly supervised by a quality engineer in order to prevent failure of application or nonconformity to the quality procedure. In this method statement for application of waterproofing membrane, we’ll be going to use the membrane type waterproofing, this type of  waterproofing  is advisable for structures like high-rise buildings which has a deeper foundation where water pressure is extremely high. Here is the method s

Difference Between SBS Modified Waterproofing Membrane and Liquid Type Waterproofing

Difference Between SBS Modified Waterproofing Membrane and Liquid Type Waterproofing Waterproofing has been used for the construction of buildings ever since the technological advancement of the year 1990. Today, it is widely used all over the world. In this article, I’m going to explain the difference between SBS modified waterproofing membrane and Liquid type waterproofing. More than that, I will suggest when it is best to use the membrane over the other and vice versa. The materials we mentioned earlier are important to discuss because of their popularity. They are a significant part of almost all types of building projects. Furthermore, they are mainly used to avoid water leakage, especially on the foundation, balcony, roof, and wet areas in the building. These two materials each have their own characteristics and advantages for the different areas where they are used. But before we move on, if you’re new to my channel please subscribe and click on the bell icon so that every tim

Method Statement for Temporary Ladder Access Scaffolding and Walkway for Hanging Platform

Method Statement for Temporary Ladder Access Scaffolding and Walkway for Hanging Platform Do you know that a temporary ladder access  scaffolding  is the equipment or tools we used to access the hanging platform on the ceiling area of the hangar? The purpose of installing temporary ladders access scaffolding and walkway is to use by workers to access the hangar roof ceiling level so that the MEP trades can be installed. In this method statement, I will show you how to properly install the temporary ladder access scaffolding and walkway. 1. Title Method Statement for Temporary Ladder Access  Scaffolding  and Walkway for Hanging Platform 2. Purpose The purpose of this method statement is to describe the measures and system, a procedure that will be adopted for installation of temporary ladder access scaffolding tower and walkway on the Steel frame for hanging platform installation at hanger, on the ceiling area of the hangar. This method statement has been prepared based on the method

Hot Weather Concreting

Hot Weather Concreting - Any operation of concreting done at atmospheric temperatures above 40°C or any operation of concreting (other than steam curing) where the temperature of concrete at time of its placement is expected to be beyond 40°0. Effects Of Hot Weather On Concrete : Effects of hot weather on concrete, in the absence of special precaution, may be briefly described as follows: a) Accelerated Setting - High temperature increases the rate or setting of the concrete. The duration of time during which the concrete can be handled is reduced. Quick stiffening may necessitate undesirable retempering by addition of water. It may also result in cold joints. b) Reduction in strength - High temperature results in the increase of the quantity of mixing water to maintain the workability with consequent reduction in strength. c) Increased tendency to crack - Either before or after hardening plastic shrinkage cracks may form in the partially hardened concrete due to rapid evaporation o
